the dawg and I on top of thurston.
my wife on top of thurston. She looks good eh? so fine!
Dawg on the ridge.
I did a bottle run and cleaned out my parents garage at the same time. My car was full to the brim and I made 62$. I kind of felt like a homeless person driving this car full of cans and I haven't shaved in about a month and I might look like a homeless person as well.

Happy Turkey Weekend.
I just got back from a vic marathon trip. I was going to do the Marathon but thought the lack of training in combination with the 130$ entry fee was a bad idea. So I just rocked the 8km race. It was fun, I've been running 1-2x per week so I was well trained up for the 8k suffer fest. It turned out ok as I won the 25-29 age group category and finished 7th overall. Yeah age categories, this is what its all come down to. My time was 27:06. The pain reminded me of a short track effort from 2003. I didn't think I would ever have to hurt like that again, but here we are. I went over with some friends from abby Jason and Marina. Jason ran the half and Marina did the full we also stayed with Jasons aunt and uncle. Jay's Uncle bruce turned out to be Peter vallance's grade 12 math teacher. Small world. After the planes, trains, and automobiles (buses, boats, and cars) game I showed up 3hrs late for thanksgiving dinner. Then I ate till I was fat. Quote of the weekend goes to Jason the morning of the race. "all right, this is what all that missed training is all about"
Today I had an awesome ride on Red mt in Misson. Most years I only ride there once for the race but it looks like this year I will ride there more then that. Its only a 1/2hr drive from abby and its just awesome trials. I also took max with and after we all hit up safeway for some California dreaming and bucks. such a great day!
Jon shredding lome on red.
My new whip. 2011 Trek ex 9. and yes its unreal. there was really nothing wrong with my old one but this thing has a couple little changes and its the the cats PJ's. I get myself into so much trouble with this thing cause its so fast! you can just stuff it into the corners so hard! and just plow through anything with "gnar factor". its really really nice.

Thompson river.
Sunday 6 of us paddled the thompson. Big waves and big fun! So Derek and anna went up in D rocks vibe and I drove the "deer killer"(my cars new name) up with Jazz, jordan, and Kiah. our car was so much fun! I had to play the responsible adult in the car. 16year boys can say some bad things so I kept things clean and wholesome, for my best interest and for Jazz's. The river was so much fun! I think the one section has waves as big as my house!
Some quotes on the drive.
Jordan in regards to the fly in the car. "its like Africa in here"
A very scared Jazz in regards to me driving way to fast in the dark pissing rain. "Ricky how can you see where your going?"
Ricky when asked are we there yet. "well the increase in rain has just increased so we are very close to chilliwack"
take out. where the Thompson and Fraser meet.

just another bike race.
Couple weeks ago I raced the Just another bike race in squamish. I guess I was well rested cause I had some good legs. I even got in the news paper
Other then doing one bike race I've been fishing, kayaking, and working.
This is an email I got from the squamish golden boy after the race.
"and for the record i killed myself racing yesterday.... Ricky, as per usual, made all us spandex-clad monkey's look like fools with his charismatic style; baggy clothes, merino wool, and mad speed. The chicken farmer still rips."
Neal Kindree.
Thanks Neal. enjoy the photos.
Post race shower
Standing wave right out my back door. It was like 35c this day, Im paddling with just a pfd and spray deck.

Poached eggs
Or poached trails, either way they are really good. Mike from pinkbike.com, Nate P and I drove out in mikes 1992 space van and poached this hiking trail about an hour or so from chilliwack. We went late in the evening to avoid any rangers and mass amounts of granola crunchers with khaki pants. The plan was perfect! the trail was unreal! we got to the top in perfect time but we kind of had to rush cause the daylight was fading. Then bam! nate pulled of the worst mechanical I have ever seen in my life! flat tire, 5 broken spokes, broken chain, broken hanger and a mangled derailleur. So we fixed it best we could and rode down most the trail in the dark, oh the good times
this is not the best time to have your bike fall apart, nice sun set eh?

Gear Jammer
so on saturday july 24 was the gear jammer in squamish. I went up to whistler to hit up the twonie race on thursday and ride and paddle on friday and hang out and then hit the gj on saturday.
The twonie went great I took the W and $50 and out of towners took the top 3 spots. The twonie is the best thing ever. 2 bucks gets you a breathing through your eye balls experience then beer and food after. you cant beat that!
Friday I did a wicked ride on some whistler gnar with some bro mans then ate burritos.
gear jammer went great! It took me like half hr to find my legs but once I found them they were so good. I was crushing everyone untill I missed a turn at the bottom of Mamquam rd and ended up killing the climb to the diamond head parking lot where this dude in a truck told me I went the wrong way. He felt bad for me so he game my a lucky lager and I drank it then went down and finished the race. Next year Im going to kill this race! I was pissed at the time but its all good, at least I have a good story to tell.
Sunday I did some morning babysitting. Malcolm who is almost 5 and Fletcher who is 2. I didnt really know what I was getting into but kids are a lot of work!

Padden lake
July 18th I raced the 18th annual padden mt pedal in bellingham washington.

This van has been to every padden!
on route to winning the 2010 padden mt pedal!
This van has been to every padden!
On This race has always held a special place in my heart cause its the very first race I ever did in my entire life way back in 1997! I haven't done it every year but here is the rundown.
1997 - broke my flat bar in half and dnf the u17
1998 - did serious battle with another Junior, I think it was barry wicks. he lead the whole race by 20sec and I passed him right at the end and won by 20sec
1999 - won the jr men
2000 - lined up with Kabush, a very fit and fast Dre, Ryder, and Shandro. Shandro won the whole shot prime and I finished 4th behind the honch guys I just mentioned
2006 - Kabush beat me by 30 sec at nationals the day before but I won the senior men's race at padden for the first time!
2008 - Marty and I skied the baker area the morning of the race and Marty won then I got second!
2010 - I wear a sombrio "dude man" kit and ride a 5 and 5 bike to the win!
Its such a fun course and such a good event! its the reason we all love to ride cause its fun! oh and winning beer on the podium really helps too! This year was not an easy year 2010 gear jammer winner Logan Wetzel was there and post race I was very nervous cause back in my he put like 4 min into me at the baker ski to sea race! but I rode a really good race at a padden and was able to hold him off!
peace out!

A back yard epic
A couple weeks ago Scott Simpson and I went and rode up the bridal falls forstry service road and rode just under mt cheam and over to mt mercer then along the thurston elk ridge then ripped elk. it was a real epic from my place at vedder crossing it took about 6hrs with many stops. there was a crazy bushwhack on mercer and we got tree sap all over our rotors, fun stuff.
my horse on the top of thurston. Im so blown away with this bike. Its a 2009 trek ex 8 with lots of upgrades. Its the jack of all trades as far as Im concerned. I got some xtr wheels for it and with them on its a 25lb xc race winning rocket and then the stock wheels with 2.4 tires make it a huck your meat with the braws machine. word, this bike is sick.

Hello?
Oh wow its been a while! So back at like Christmas my computer broke down and I didn't really feel like fixing it so I used my ipod for checking out Internet stuff and would use other peoples computers when needed. But its all changed now! I got myself a really crappy computer of my own and Im rocking and rolling! I hate computers, but they are kind of nice. I just had so many photos on my camera and needed to do something with them. so I might try to up date this thing a little more often now.
The last couple weeks I've just been burning the candle at both ends and Im kind of sick now. so Im just eating garlic and hot food and trying to kill this thing.

So I raced the BC cup at bear mt in mission and it might just be the best race course I have ever done! no joke! best ever! anyhow I was killing the dh and holding my own on the climbs to finish 50seconds behind pro bike racer hadley. So close to a win!, next year Ill get em. anyhow right after the race I headed up to mt baker with ryan p to see if we could ski the whole thing but we ran into really low visibility and some crazy wind so we turned back and lapped it a couple times. While we were out skiing the wind took our tent and made it a sale and ryan ended up loosing his wedding band and I broke a tent pole and put a bunch of holes in my mobile fabric home. out!
Ill try and tell some more stories over the next couple weeks to catch up. later

Best week ever!
This last week may have just been the best of all time. Abbotsford/Chilliwack has been blasted with some spring like weather and its been clear and 10-12c for day time highs. After night skate skiing at cypress in brown snow and trying my best to avoid massive dirt puddles I decided to dust off the old mt bike and hit it hard! Wednesday I had an unreal ride up Big Sumas. I have never been to the top in winter before cause you always run into snow but not this year. The trails on the way down were just unreal, mint, and just as good if not better then they are in June. I found this new trail called Noah fear and it was sick! Thursday it was so warm I thought kayaking the Chilliwack would be a good idea, and it was, I took the new creek boat out and just bombed down everything.
Kind of a fuzz photo but you get the point, kayaking is king. The river was at a great level.
Anna's thinking of buying a new house. I told her you might want to look around a bit.
This is what my Friday morning looked like, if you know vedder at all you would agree this is not a bad way to spend Friday morning.
Friday afternoon I headed out to Van city. Then Marty and I packed up the tercel 4wd and woke up at 5am and rolled out to the Duffy Lake area. We stopped at McDonald's in Squamish and pounded back a couple egg mcmuffins made with a freshly cracked grade A Canada egg. Then we got to the Cerise creek parking lot and strapped on the skis.
This is the area we found on day one, yeah it was OK. No big deal.
This shot was taken just above Keith's Hut, I think Marty is just loving it!
If we grew up in this area I don't think we could have planed a better ski we skied on a glacier, over a bunch of ridges, through some trees then at the end of the day we found a nice little pow town stash and lapped it 3 times. What a day!
This was taken from the top of pow town run. I think that's Duffy lake in the background. you can also see the hwy off to the left.
For day two we wanted to ski Cayoosh Mt. So we parked at the Cayoosh parking lot and jumped the snow bank at the parking lot and set up camp. We didn't really get out of the tent all that much cause it was -13 outside. I did have a great sleep.
stagg chilli and mr noodles has never tasted so good!
Skin track up in the Cayoosh area.
Marty at the top ready to shredy.
Parking lot after, and yes that is a camp stove boiling water for my coffee on the way home. Right!!!!!!!

Thar peak
Hit up the Thar peak in the coke area last week with the corn dawg master. We were going to ski but we didn't really know where to ski then I got this book called exploring the coast mountains on skis and its a really good book with some awesome skis that are in my hood (coke, chilliwack, and baker). We found this Thar peak and went to hit it up. We kind of went half way up thar then around the backside to some really cool terrain with OK snow but not really pow town. However we did find pow town near the bottom of thar and did a couple runs and then it got dark and we hit McDonald's and went home. Now the skiing party is over for the next week cause my folks went on holidays to mexico and I got to spend all my time baby sitting a bunch of 6week old chickens and some farm dogs. On the plus side I could use some rest from all the skiing.
the corn dawg master!
crash landing for the master
Connor always has the most unreal lunch, I'm always rocking the costco triangle bun with nutella and PB and the corn dawg has a pita with roast beef, sprouts, and special sauce. you got to eat, right!
some big lines
Thar!
